My Memoir (Laree Westover): This book is my memoir—a memoir that for several years now, I have known I would one day write. But let’s set the record straight right here. Part, but only part, of the impetus for writing my memoir at this time, is the publishing of our daughter’s book, Educated. I want to tell the story of my life as I really lived it. I want my grandchildren to know who their grandmother is and was, and I want to be a force for good in their lives. I've wanted to get my hands on this book ever since I heard Laree had begun writing it! I admit, the main thing I was looking forward to was to have Laree "set the record straight", after so much highly fictionalized and false information has been publicly put forth about her and her family. And she does indeed set the record straight...the thing I found interesting is that the events of her life, and some of the extraordinary ordeals her family has faced don't need to be embellished or sensationalized, as has been done by others. As she tells what really happened in a straighforward way, those experiences become more than fodder for a sensational storyline, but teach the reader important principles of faith, resilience and courage. Laree truly has the heart of a teacher, and I have been blessed to take several classes at her beautiful facility in Clifton, and as anyone who has ever studied with her knows, she never misses an opportunity to educate.
